On the east, Archer begins at SW 13th Street and stretches west along the UF campus to SW 34th Street. If you want to be near UF, this is the Archer area of choice. The university’s School of Medicine, nursing program, dentistry program, biomedical sciences and Center for Environmental and Human Toxicology are located along this section of Archer. This area is also home to UF’s Shands Medical Complex and the VA Hospital.
For three blocks west of SW 34th Street, Archer borders one of the region’s prime shopping, eating and entertainment areas. Butler Plaza, Butler Town Center and Butler North run along Archer, offering movie theaters, major department stores, grocery stores, coffee houses, national chain restaurants and countless services.
Heading farther west on Archer takes you out of the city limits and to Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, Bronson Speedway, Upper Waccasassa Conservation Area and the Gulf's Cedar Key.
Transportation
If you don't have your own car in Gainesville, Archer Road is a convenient home base. Dedicated bike lanes trail along most of Archer Road from SW 13th Street to SW 34th Street. This makes access to the university campus, Butler Plaza and downtown Gainesville extremely easy by bicycle.
Numerous bus stops are scattered throughout the neighborhood too. If you live near Shands Medical Plaza, you can take a Route 8 bus to the city’s northeast area or a Route 43 bus northwest to Santa Fe College. If you live near Butler Plaza, Routes 12 and 37 take you to Reitz Union, and Route 75 whisks you away to The Oaks Mall. Campus circulator buses also run along Archer, with Routes 121 and 122 traveling between Shands and The Hub and Route 125 running from Butler Plaza to The Hub.
For late night transport Wednesday through Sunday, Later Gator buses run from Butler Plaza to downtown.
If you have a car, Archer Road is an easily traveled thoroughfare with four lanes through most of the city. It offers easy access to two major north-south roadways, I-75 and SW 13th Street/U.S. 441, so you can travel quickly to north areas of town.

The south area of Gainesville is chock full of nature reserves and parks, and apartments along Archer put them in close range. You’re close to Bivens Rim Forest, Lake Alice South, Sweetwater Wetlands Park and Kanapaha Botanical Garden.
