Silver Creek is just a few short minutes away from the University of Florida campus. Some areas of the campus like the UF Health Shands Hospital can be reached on foot in 15-20 minutes. Other areas of campus can be reached by bike with an average travel time of 20-30 minutes depending on the chosen destination.
Many students will find it most convenient to take one of the buses operated by the Gainesville Regional Transit System. The complex is serviced by routes 1, 12, 34, and 38. It will likely be best to use Route 1 which has a stop at the nearby Butler Plaza. From here, students can reach a variety of campus areas in as little as 15 minutes. Buses run Monday-Friday every 15 to 60 minutes and also provide weekend service on a limited schedule.
Some find it more convenient to take their own vehicle from the complex to campus. There are a number of commuter parking spaces on campus that can be reached in 7-15 minutes depending on the time of day and volume of traffic.
The Archer Road area of Gainesville is one of the most vibrant in the city and affords a wealth of shopping and dining establishments for residents of Silver Creek. Earth Fare, WalMart, Winn Dixie, and Publix provide shopping for groceries and necessities within just a few blocks and are walkable destinations. Nearby coffee shops include Chicken Salad Chick and Dunkin’ Donuts.
Many restaurants are within walking distance of the apartments. Some of the most popular are Carrabba’s Italian Grill and Peach Valley Cafe on Southwest 34th Street. There are also Chuy’s and Taco Bell restaurants within three blocks. Those who wish to visit a local nightspot or bar will need to make a short two-mile drive to find popular clubs like Balls and Backstage Lounge.
Entertainment venues in the area include the Regal Cinemas Gainesville Cinema 14, one of the city’s largest movie theaters. There are also cultural attractions to be found such as the Florida Museum of Natural History and the Florida State Collection of Arthropods. The Harn Museum of Art is another popular spot for those who appreciate cultural activities.
