Transportation
The Phoenix Villas apartment complex is located about one mile from the southern edge of the University of Florida campus. If you drive along SW 23rd Terrace to Archer Road, you can reach the Natural Area Teaching Laboratory, Lake Alice South and other facilities on the southern end of campus in less than five minutes. You can drive to at least two parking garages in under 10 minutes even with light traffic.
If you don’t have private transportation, you can walk to all areas of the university campus within an hour. It takes about 15 minutes to bike to the center of campus, and you can always depend on the local busing system when the weather isn’t ideal for biking or walking.
The closest bus stop is on SW 23rd Street within a five-minute walk of the apartment complex. You can catch buses on five different routes from this road, allowing you to reach most areas of Gainesville with the right transfers. You can take northbound bus routes 19, 35, 36 and 37 to reach Rawlings Hall toward the eastern end of campus. This area is home to Broward Hall, the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and McCarty Woods.
If you want to reach the northeastern corner of campus near Turlington Hall, the Architecture & Fine Arts Library and University Auditorium, take the route 9 bus that stops in front of the Towne Parc Apartments. Regardless of which bus you take, you can expect to reach your final destination in about 45 minutes. You may also shorten the trip by getting off at earlier stops.
If you want to reach areas of Gainesville beyond the university, you can catch various bus routes from campus. From the apartment complex, you can also catch buses heading south of campus. You will need to transfer to at least one additional bus to reach some points of the city, but it is possible to explore all areas of Gainesville without a private vehicle.
