Chelsea Apartments sits to the northeast of the University of Florida campus. It is farther away from campus than most students will be willing to bike or walk, but thankfully there are other transportation options available which include commuting and public transit.
Bus routes 20, 28, 34, and 36 provide transportation to the area of the apartment complex. One of the most convenient routes is No. 28 which runs from the Hub to Forest Park. Students should plan on the bus trip to campus taking anywhere from 11-48 minutes depending on traffic and the time of day. Bus service is available Monday-Friday and to a more limited extent on the weekends.
By far, the best way to reach the campus from these apartments is by car. The trip can take anywhere from 10-30 minutes depending on traffic. Many students prefer to drive their car to the commuter lot on campus and then take the public transit to other areas of the school.
Gainesville Plaza is located just to the west of Chelsea Apartments. It is one of the major retail centers in the area. Shops and businesses located in the plaza include Lowe’s Home Improvement, Hibbet Sports, and Lucky’s Market. There is also Ward’s Supermarket near the Northside Shopping Center, and a Publix market also serves the area.
Recreation activities in the vicinity of the complex include the Alley Gatorz Bowling Center just to the east. The Flatwoods Conservation area is a popular local attraction that is within two miles of the complex. These areas can be reached within 10-15 minutes by car.
There are numerous dining options for students. One of the most popular in the area is Satchel’s Pizza. This pizzeria offers full-service dining in addition to delivery. There are also a large number of fast food options in the area which include McDonald’s, Subway, Checkers, and more. For those who enjoy the nightlife, it is possible to visit a number of bars which are located to the east along NW 13th Street. Many of these clubs offer live entertainment by both local and regional musical artists.
