About St. Croix

St Croix

Transportation

The location of St. Croix on the east side of the University of Florida campus makes it possible to walk to many locations on campus in less than 10 minutes. It is equally suitable to bike to school and the trip can take anywhere from five to fifteen minutes depending on the campus destination.

These apartments are served by multiple bus routes operated by the Gainesville Regional Transit System. The routes are 1, 10, 25, 46, 121, 126, and 127. The most useful of these for students will likely be 46 which runs from the Reitz Student Union to the Downtown Transfer Station every 15-30 minutes Monday-Friday. There is no service on this line during the weekends.

Using a personal vehicle to drive to campus is possible, but this method of transportation is not chosen by many students due to the close proximity of St. Croix to the campus. Those who choose to drive should be aware that it will be necessary to park in a commuter lot which will then require walking or taking a bus to other areas of campus. This process can be more time consuming than walking or taking the bus.

Things Nearby

St. Croix is in one of the most walkable neighborhoods of Gainesville, with a large number of restaurants and retail shops being located within a few blocks. Grocery shopping can be done at one of several markets including two Publix markets which are less than one mile away from the complex. There are many coffee shops nearby which include Friend Coffee Shop and Cafe C. These and other coffee shops require only a short walk of two or three blocks.

Dining in the area can be enjoyed at a variety of restaurants which include Checkers, Caribbean Queen, and Yummy City. All of these restaurants are three blocks or less from the apartment complex. There are many bookstores in the immediate area which offer class textbooks and other reading material.

Entertainment options nearby include the Warphaus Gallery and the Hippodrome State Theatre. The complex also offers convenient access to the Florida Museum of Natural History, Matheson History Museum, and Harn Museum of Art.
