Transportation
Lakewood Villas is just a couple of miles from the west side of University of Florida, providing easy access to campus. For residents who prefer to drive to UF, it’s often easiest to head south on SW 62nd, then east on SW 20th and north on SW 34th. If your destination is the Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Institute, the softball field or other south campus sites, use Hull Road from SW 34th. If you’re heading to northern campus sites like Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, use University Avenue from SW 34th. You can reach most UF destinations and the adjacent VA Medical Center in 10 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic.
If you enjoy the cost-effectiveness and environmental benefits of commuting via public transportation, you have many options from Lakewood Villas. A spacious, covered bus stop is located at the entrance to the apartment community. Route 20 is your most direct route to campus from the apartments, stopping near Harn Museum of Art, Lakeside Residence Hall, Corry Village, Lake Alice Field, Flavet Field and Reitz Union. The entire trip takes about 35 minutes.
Several other bus routes serve Lakewood Villas, including Route 62 which heads to southern Gainesville and Lexington Crossing. Route 76 travels southwest of the city to Haile Market Square and north to The Oaks Mall. Route 77 provides easy transport to The Oaks Mall and Santa Fe College.
Want to power your own commute? Cycling is the cheapest way to get to campus, and UF students receive free bike repair services. You can bike along SW 20th to SW 34th and Hull/Mowry Road to reach most UF medical buildings in 25 minutes. It takes about the same time to reach the north areas of campus.
