Just five miles north of University of Florida, Lake Crossing is close to shopping and dining in northwest Gainesville. It’s less than a 15-minute drive to the campus, closest to northwestern UF sites like Levin College of Law and Pressly Stadium. It’s a 17-minute drive in light traffic to the southeast corner of campus and McKnight Brain Institute, Stetson Medical Sciences and the Dental Science building.
You can also get to most areas of campus using public transportation. The nearest bus stop is just a five-minute walk from the apartments at the southwest corner of NW 39 Avenue and NW 51st Street. Route 43 is probably your best bet for campus commuting. It travels along University Avenue, making stops near Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and the Gator Sports Shop, Murphree Hall, Keene-Flint Hall, Library West and Tigert Hall. The route continues throughout campus, also stopping at Fine Arts buildings, Yulee Pit and Norman Field, Beaty Towers and the College of Pharmacy and medical, nursing and dental sciences buildings. Making the complete trip from the apartments to Shands medical facilities takes about 40 minutes. Route 43 operates only on weekdays.
Route 43 headed west of the apartments leads to Santa Fe College in about 17 minutes. Other routes serving the area around Lake Crossing include route 39 which travels west to Santa Fe College and east to Grace Marketplace and the airport.
Pedal power is your cheapest transportation option to the university, and the bike ride to the central area of campus can be completed in about 30 minutes. Cyclists can choose a variety of surface streets to reach campus.
Several stores and restaurants are within two to five blocks of Lake Crossing’s entrance. These include Tires Plus, David’s Real Pit BBQ, Northwest Grille, One Love Cafe, Sal’s Place and The Crafty Bastard’s Restaurant & Pub. Head west along NW 39th Avenue, and you’ll find many churches, UF Springhill Health Center and many medical offices and services. Continue on NW 39th Avenue, and you’ll access dozens more fast food joints, restaurants and stores around the I-75 entrance, about 3.5 miles from the apartments. Grocery stores are abundant, too, with Publix Super Markets a mile-and-a-half north, 3.5 miles west and 2 miles south of the apartments. A Fresh Market is less than two miles away.
